Throughout my semester 1 journey doing Typography with Mr Vinod, I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. Despite being overwhelmed as a new student here at Taylors University and also in Malaysia there was a lot to take in at first, especially during this pandemic. From learning online to using Blogger to learning to use Adobe Indesign and Fontlab for the first time, It was quite the challenge. Moreover, the tasks given was fun and very intriguing. Although some task like the task 1 & 2, when doing text formatting using Adobe Indesign was very challenging for me as It was my first time using Adobe Indesign. Overall, I have enjoyed my semester 1 here as a Typography student of Mr Vinod and if there was one thing that I have learnt and will always stay close to my heart when trying to finish the task is to use my time wisely and that time management is important to getting all the tasks up to date.
Throughout the semester, I have came to found out that my weakness was on trying to navigate through Blogger and Adobe Indesign. Secondly, trying to express my creativity on some designs can be challenging at times. So I feel like it's important for me to do thorough research to get my ideas and creative mind going. As a first timer using Adobe Indesign, I thought that it was quite easy to manage as the tools were similar to Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. It turned out quite the opposite. Kerning and Tracking was really one of my weaknesses and I hope to get more practice on it during my free time. Another challenged that I have observed very closely was designing typefaces. Getting all the typeface's height balanced so that it doesn't create a conflict in the typeface was also challenging. On top of that, trying to navigate my way through FontLab 7 was really quite the cherry on top.
I have really enjoyed myself and have definitely learned a lot of new skills in graphic designing. With most of task given was to express a design or a word, It definitely helped me to broaden my creativity. Moreover, learning to use different application softwares such as Adobe Indesign and FontLab, it will help me in the long run in being a graphic designer. Especially, creating my own typeface that was quite the achievement. Last but not least, the youtube videos provided by Mr Vinod was absolutely amazing. It really helped my journey on finishing the tasks given and i'm sure all the other classmates would feel the same. Ending the semester 1 on a note to myself that is to always stay up to date on blogger so that the work doesn't pile up :D.
